Selling

Sellers pay NO COMMISSION on lots selling for £5,000 and over

The following is designed to give important and useful information on how to sell at auction. If you have property you wish to sell, Shapes team of specialists can help you through the entire process.

Consultation

The first step in the process is to arrange a consultation. You may bring your property to us where a department specialist will meet you, conduct an valuation and provide you with a preliminary estimate.

IIf visiting our offices is not practical, it is possible to have a basic valuation done by email/mail. Simply send an image/photograph and the important details to enable us to offer a valuation by telephone.

Alternately, we will visit your home if that is more convenient. The auctioneers run their own diaries therefore it is important to speak directly with them when making a home appointment.

Selling

Based on the valuation a Shapes expert will decide whether your property is appropriate for sale at auction. If you decide to proceed you will be given a receipt for the items with our terms and conditions on the reverse. The items will be catalogued and a photograph will be taken to help market them to realise a favourable price.

Carriage

We are able to arrange for transport to collect larger items to bring to auction at a reasonable rate. We are fortunate we own our own transport and employ drivers to deliver furniture purchased from our furniture store and the same drivers pick up for the auction department.  Please note we are only able to collect goods we are unable to return unsold items.

Reserve Price

The reserve price is the confidential minimum selling price to which you and Shapes agree before the sale. If bidding on your items fails to reach the reserve, we will not sell the piece and will advise you of your options.

Sellers Commission

Sellers pay 15% commission, 1.18% insurance which is deducted, along with any agreed-upon expenses such as carriage and photography, from the hammer price.  All costs are subject to vat.  Should you have any specific questions regarding the selling commission, please call the auctioneer who valued your items.

Payment

Shortly after the sale you will receive a vendors statement of the final hammer price for each Lot you consigned and a total hammer. We will send payment, by cheque, between 4-6 weeks after the sale.
